Backus, Garrett [EHD]
From: Backus, Garrett [EHD]
Sent:, Tuesday, November 17, 2020 3:42 PM
To: Tony.Feliciano@kuraray.com
Cc: Muro, Claudia [EHD]
Subject: RE: Calgon Carbon Corporation (Stockton warehouse) NtA response - hazardous
materials business plan
Hi Tony,
Based on the following paragraph Calgon needs to make a CERS submittal and report the hazardous materials on site:
As of the beginning of this week, the facility is storing approximately 300,000 lbs. of spent carbon
awaiting transport
to a reactivation facility, and approximately 3,000,000 lbs. of clean, unused carbon awaiting need at a
customer site.
Attached is an SOS for the clean carbon, along with SDS's for CO2 and engine fuels used on site.
There are
approximately 10 CO2 cylinders in site, as well as 2-55 gallon drums of diesel fuel and 10-15 cylinders
of propane. All
vehicle maintenance is conducted by outside service, so no maintenance chemicals are stored on site.
The clean carbon, spent carbon, carbon dioxide, diesel fuel and propane are all above the reportable threshold for
hazardous materials. The carbon is a "combustible dust" making it a hazardous material. Your facility in Santa Fe
Springs, CA reported similar hazardous materials in CERS.
https://cers.calepa.ca.gov/
Make the CERS submittal as soon as possible,
Garrett Backus, Ld.
