Description HEALTH DISTRICT This work shall consist of drilling, constructing, developing and testing a new well to deliver. 500 gallons per minute. Each well and its appurtenances shall consist of the items shown and shall be arranged on the well site in a manner similar to that shown on the drawings. No change in the specified depth of the well , casing, shutoff, or any other feature of the well system shall be made except when authorized or directed by the Department of Public Works . The Engineer shall be notified at least 48 hours in advance of starting any drilling, testing, or developing of the well , to permit the presence 'of a representative from his office. A. The entire well site and access road shall be cleared of all trees , brush, stumps , large roc:.�s , vegetation, and debris , and graded to the elevations shown on the plans , and rolled to a firm subgrade for the pavement. Care shall be taken that all water drains away from the well. B. Drilling shall be performed with approved ,s•tandard well drilling equipment in good condition and adequate in all respects to drill successfully to a depth of at least 400 feet . Wells shall be drilled as plumb as practicable, and shall not deviate from a straight plumb line by an amount sufficient to interfere in any way with the installation and operation of the largest size multi-stage deep well turbine type pump designed for installation in a well casing of the diameter being used. Wells shall be constructed to prevent, insofar as possible, contamination from any source. An envelope casing at least four inches greater in diameter that the main casing shall be ' driven and so centered that the annular space between casings shall be approximately two inches . This construction shall be carried through the first and second pervious or possible water bearing stratum and into the next impervious stratum, but in no event less that fifty feet below the ground surface. However, in the event there is only one pervious stratum,the double casing shall be carried to a depth of fifty feet. The annular space between casings shall be filled with a grout as herein specified. The grout shall be placed in one continuous operation. Within 24 hours after the drilling has been completed the Driller shall submit to the Engineer two copies of the drilling log. Depending on data obtained from the drilling operations, the Engineer reserves the right to vary the extent or scope of work to be done. No work shall be started until these instruc- tions have been received . (38)
