10. Personal Protective Equipment <br />All personnel entering the exclusion or contamination reduction zone must wear the appropriate <br />level of protection as designated by this SSHSP. It has been determined that personal protective <br />equipment will be used by personnel when performing activities related to waste characterization <br />sampling of this site. When personnel can control their exposure through engineering or <br />administrative controls they shall do so. <br />The level of protection required shall be upgraded or downgraded based on the results of <br />personal air monitoring, action levels from direct reading instruments or a change in site <br />conditions. Changes in protection levels must be determined by the SHSO and approved by the <br />Project Manager/Onsite Project Lead and Project Health and Safety Officer. <br />LEVELS OF PROTECTION <br />The following levels of protection will be used by personnel at the site: <br />Level C: Used when criteria for using air -purifying respirators are met and a lesser level <br />of skin protection is required. <br />Level D: Used only as a work uniform and in an area where no skin protection is <br />required. <br />C LEVELS OF PROTECTION WORN IN THE EXCLUSION ZONE <br />LEVEL C <br />Exclusion Zone A, Level C is required at all times. <br />Exclusion Zone B, Level C is required only when collecting the sample <br />Respiratory Protection: Full face air purifying respirator (any respirator with a lower protection factor than a <br />full face Air Purifying Respirator must be approved by SHSO) <br />Combination cartridge for protection against chemical/organic vapors, pesticides/fertilizers with HEPA filter <br />Protective Clothing: Tyvek (or other appropriate disposable coverall) <br />Head: Hardhat <br />Hand: Outer glove - Nitrile <br />Boots: Steel toe boot <br />Hearing: Earplugs if necessary <br />Level D is required for all personnel in exclusion Zone B when samples are not being taken. <br />Protective Clothing: Tyvek (or other appropriate disposable coverall) <br />Head: Hardhat <br />Hand: Not required <br />Foot: Steel toe boot <br />Santa Fe Road Disposal Site — Health & Safety Plan 27 October 2002 <br />
