2. Total water hardness.
To determine the daily capacity requirement, multiply the
daily water usage by the water hardness. For example, if the
water hardness is 21 grains per gallon, and the water usage is
3000 gallons per day:
Capacity required (grains) = 21 gpg x 3000 gpd
= 63,000 grains/day
Timeclock Units
With the daily capacity requirement known, refer to Table
4A and 413 to determine the required salt dosage and refill
minutes. Using the above example with PV -90A softener,
the unit would regenerate daily with a 20 pound salt dosage
and a 9 minute refill time.
Units with Aqua--ensor® Sensing Device
For units with the standard, delay -style Aqua -Sensor sensing
device, the reserve capacity must last an entire day if the
Aqua -Sensor probe signals the need to regenerate at the
beginning of the day. Therefore, the reserve capacity should
be approximately equal to the daily capacity requirement.
Refer to Tables 5A and 513 to determine the salt dosage and
refill time necessary to obtain the required reserve capacity.
NOTICE: The capacity to signal is equal to the total capac-
ity from Table 4A or 4B minus the reserve capacity from Table
5A or 5B.
NOTICE: Capacities shown are nominal and based on resin
manufacturers data. Actual capacity will vary with the
influent water characteristics, temperature, flow and other
factors.
Duplex Units
The capacities for duplex units are the same as for single
units. However, if both units regenerate every day, there may
not be enough time to produce saturated brine in the single
