ARTICLE/SECTION YES NO N/A COMMENTS <br /> 1055 Use of Safety Cell (Not applicable for CH.) X THE FACILITY DOES NOT HAVE A SAFETY <br /> CELL. <br /> (a) Safety cells,specified in Title 24, § 2-1013(b), <br /> are only used to hold those inmates who display <br /> behavior that results in the destruction of <br /> property or reveals intent to cause physical harm <br /> self or others. <br /> (b) The facility administrator, in cooperation with X <br /> the responsible physician,has developed written <br /> policies and procedures governing safety cell <br /> use. <br /> (c) In no case are safety cells used for punishment X <br /> or as a substitute for treatment. <br /> (d) Placement requires the approval of the facility X <br /> manager or watch commander,or a physician <br /> delegated by the facility manager. <br /> (e) Direct visual observation is conducted and X <br /> documented at least twice every 30 minutes. <br /> (f) Continued retention of the inmate is reviewed a X <br /> minimum of every eight hours. <br /> (g) A medical assessment is secured within 12 hours X <br /> of placement in this cell or at the next daily sick <br /> call,whichever is earliest. <br /> (h) Medical clearance for continued retention is X <br /> secured every 24 hours thereafter. <br /> (i) A mental health opinion on placement and X <br /> retention is secured within 24 hours of <br /> placement. <br /> (j) There are written procedures that assure X <br /> necessary nutrition and fluids are administered. <br /> (k) Inmates are allowed to retain sufficient clothing, X <br /> or are provided with a"safety garment"to <br /> provide for personal privacy unless documented <br /> risks to the inmate's safety or facility security are <br /> documented. <br /> 1056 Use of Detoxification Cell X THE FACILITY DOES NOT HAVE A <br /> (Not applicable for CH.) DETOXIFICATION CELL <br /> (a) Pursuant to written policies and procedures, a <br /> detoxification cell, specified in Title 24, §2- <br /> 1013(b), is used only for housing inmates who <br /> are a treat to their own safety or the safety of <br /> others due to their sate of intoxication. <br /> (b) Such inmates are removed from the X <br /> detoxification cell when they are able to <br /> continue with processing. <br /> (c) An evaluation by medical staff or an evaluation X <br /> by custody staff,pursuant to written medical <br /> procedures in accordance with Title 15, § 1213, <br /> occurs whenever any inmate is retained in a <br /> detoxification cell more than six hours. <br /> (d) Intermittent direct visual observation of inmates X <br /> in detoxification cell is conducted and <br /> documented no less than every half hour. <br /> ADULT CH-TH MED-MH;12/6/99 MEDICAL/MH PAGE 3 Court And Temp Holding BOC FORM 357(Rev.5/98) <br />
