ARTICLE/SECTION YES NO N/A COMMENTS 1055 Use of Safety Cell (Not applicable for CH.) X THE FACILITY DOES NOT HAVE A SAFETY CELL. (a) Safety cells,specified in Title 24, § 2-1013(b), are only used to hold those inmates who display behavior that results in the destruction of property or reveals intent to cause physical harm self or others. (b) The facility administrator, in cooperation with X the responsible physician,has developed written policies and procedures governing safety cell use. (c) In no case are safety cells used for punishment X or as a substitute for treatment. (d) Placement requires the approval of the facility X manager or watch commander,or a physician delegated by the facility manager. (e) Direct visual observation is conducted and X documented at least twice every 30 minutes. (f) Continued retention of the inmate is reviewed a X minimum of every eight hours. (g) A medical assessment is secured within 12 hours X of placement in this cell or at the next daily sick call,whichever is earliest. (h) Medical clearance for continued retention is X secured every 24 hours thereafter. (i) A mental health opinion on placement and X retention is secured within 24 hours of placement. (j) There are written procedures that assure X necessary nutrition and fluids are administered. (k) Inmates are allowed to retain sufficient clothing, X or are provided with a"safety garment"to provide for personal privacy unless documented risks to the inmate's safety or facility security are documented. 1056 Use of Detoxification Cell X THE FACILITY DOES NOT HAVE A (Not applicable for CH.) DETOXIFICATION CELL (a) Pursuant to written policies and procedures, a detoxification cell, specified in Title 24, §2- 1013(b), is used only for housing inmates who are a treat to their own safety or the safety of others due to their sate of intoxication. (b) Such inmates are removed from the X detoxification cell when they are able to continue with processing. (c) An evaluation by medical staff or an evaluation X by custody staff,pursuant to written medical procedures in accordance with Title 15, § 1213, occurs whenever any inmate is retained in a detoxification cell more than six hours. (d) Intermittent direct visual observation of inmates X in detoxification cell is conducted and documented no less than every half hour.
