4. Vapor Intrusion Pathway Evaluation
The purpose of this VI Work Plan is to address the recommended next steps in the VI evaluation,
including:
1. Additional delineation of TCE in soil vapor through the installation of two additional soil vapor
probes(SV-131 and SV-132) near SV-122 and SV-123.
2. Building-specific VI evaluations in the residential areas near 4`h Street and Walnut Avenue and
the commercial area including four buildings near VY Street and South Stockton Avenue(SV-122
and SV-123).
Figure 3 presents the two areas retained for further VI evaluation and the locations of the two additional
proposed soil vapor probes (SV-131 and SV-132).The northern and southern retained areas consist of
commercial/industrial buildings and primarily of residential buildings, respectively. Assuming access is
granted, buildings within these two retained areas will undergo a VI pathway evaluation. The following
sections outline the details of the proposed VI pathway evaluation.
The primary steps to be undertaken for the VI pathway evaluation at each accessible property includes
the activities described in the following sections.
4.1 COMMUNICATION WITH OWNERS/OCCUPANTS
This section outlines the proposed plan for contacting and coordinating with the property
owners/occupants within the areas retained for further VI evaluation.
4.1.1 Initial Contact
Tax and phone records will be researched to determine the current owners of properties within the two
retained areas. Based on this information, written contact will be initiated with the owner of each
property, and information printouts will be provided to each respective owner/occupant. If a response
to the initial contact is not made within two weeks of mailing, an attempt will be made to contact the
owner by telephone.
4.1.2 Information Printouts
Once initial contact is made with the property owner/occupant, an information printout describing the
planned sampling activities will be provided. The printout will include a cover letter indicating the
reason for desired access to the property, answers to frequently asked questions, "do's and don'ts"for
occupants while indoor air sampling is being conducted, an Access Agreement Form, and contact
information.
5LEBINCH
