Attend to cuts and scratches immediately and report them to the supervisor.
Recommended Safety Equipment
Protective clothing such as goggles, aprons, rubber gloves, hard hats and safety shoes.
Eye wash station and emergency shower.
Fire extinguisher.
Chemical spill containment kits for acids and bases.
Good Housekeeping
Good housekeeping is essential to a safe working environment. All walkways should
be kept clean and free of slippery wastewater slime. Interior floors and passageways
should be kept dry and free of obstructions. Combustible wastes should be disposed of
in airtight metal containers and removed from the plant daily.
See Cleaning Practices Section for types of cleaners for your new treatment system.
Electrical Safety
Only qualified and authorized personnel familiar with electrical safety procedures should
maintain the electrical equipment. Always consider electrical equipment to be
energized unless it is positively proven to be de-energized and properly grounded.
Cleaning Practices
This plant's treatment of the wastewater includes the use of bacteria, which break down
the waste and use if for food. Many of the cleaners used at your facility may be toxic to
living organisms, and could kill the bacteria, preventing the treatment plant from
properly treating the waste.
Avoid products that contain ingredients such as: chlorinated compounds; acetone;
mineral spirits; petroleum distillates; turpentine; formaldehyde; phenols; xylene; toluene
naphtha; synthetic perfumes, fragrances and dyes; trichloroethane; methylene chloride;
and phosphates.
Record Keeping
Importance of and Deed for Records
Records are needed for the following reasons:
2 pvsltm%health-safety'-records-1_
