This baffle is <br /> intended to retain any surface scum that has made it past the scum baffle, or to catch denitrified <br /> sludge which has "popped" to the surface after entering the clarifier. Any solids which overflow <br /> the clarifier weir at this point are captured on filter. If the solids loss is severe, it will clog the <br /> filter and then treatment will be out of control. <br />
