Geospte&
consultants
As an example, a soil sample collected on August 18, 2022, from location SS-81713-06A at a
depth of 2 feet bgs will have an ID of PS-UST-SS-817-06A-2-20220818.
Each sample will have an adhesive plastic or waterproof paper label affixed to the container.
Samples will be labeled at the time of collection, and the following information will be recorded
on the container label:
• Project name.
• Sample identification.
• Date and time of sample collection.
• Preservative type (if applicable).
Soil and grab groundwater samples will be stored in an ice-cooled chest and maintained at
approximately 0 to 6 degrees Celsius (°C) for transport under standard chain-of-custody
procedures (described below) to Eurofins Environment Testing Northern California, LLC, a
California-certified laboratory.
If collected, the LNAPL samples will be stored in an ice-cooled chest and maintained at
approximately 0 to 6°C for transport under standard chain-of-custody procedures (described
below) to Eurofins Environment Testing Northern California, LLC, a California-certified
laboratory.
3.2.2.2 Chain-of-Custody Procedures
Standard chain-of-custody (COC)procedures will be followed for the samples throughout the
collection, handling, and analysis process. Samples are considered to be in one's custody if
within the custodian's possession or view, in a secured location with restricted access, or in a
container that is secured with an official seal such that the sample cannot be accessed without
breaking the seal.
The principal document used to track possession and transfer of samples will be the COC form.
Each sample will be entered on a COC form the day it is collected. The data entries will be made
using an indelible-ink pen. Corrections will be made by drawing a single line through the error,
writing in the correct information, then dating and initialing the change.
A COC form will accompany each cooler of samples to the analytical laboratory. Each person
who has custody of the samples will sign the COC form and ensure that the samples are not left
unattended unless properly secured. Copies of the COC forms will be retained in the project files
and included in the final report.
3.2.2.3 Sample Analysis
A total of six soil and three grab groundwater samples (two primary samples and one duplicate
sample)will be submitted to the analytical laboratory. The samples will be analyzed for VOCs
and TPH-g using USEPA Method 8260B, TPH-d using USEPA Method 8015B, and TOC using
USEPA Method 9060A (soil) or SM 531 OD (water). If collected, the LNAPL samples will be
analyzed for TPH-g using USEPA Method 8260B and TPH-d using USEPA Method 8015B.
Analytical methods and expected reporting limits for the chemicals are included in Table 3.
