BUR
Results
As shown in Table 1, methane was detected at 3.4 percent by volume at probe GP-10, which is
below the lower explosive limit (LEL) of 5.0 percent by volume. Methane was not detected at the
other Forward Landfill soil gas probes during the third quarter 2002 monitoring event.
Oxygen readings in soil gas probes ranged from 16.1 percent by volume in soil gas probes GP-7
and GP-10 to 20.4 percent by volume in probe GP-9. Carbon dioxide readings ranged from 0.5
percent by volume in probe GP-9 to 4.2 percent by volume in probe GP-10. The relative pressure
of the probes ranged from 0.0 to 0.1 inches of water indicating that the pressure within the soil
gas probes is at or near equilibrium with atmospheric pressure. Methane was not detected during
monitoring of the buildings (office, yard, and scale house) at Forward Landfill.
Methane was not detected above the LEL during the third quarter 2002 monitoring event.
According to Forward personnel, soil gas monitoring will be conducted again during the fourth
quarter of 2002.
