I
V. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
NLS§ 4.1. The nitrate loading calculations show the wastewater effluent from the entire subject
property will theoretically possess a nitrate-nitrogen concentration of 6.4 mg/L NO3-N, 36%
below the Federal nitrate Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 10 ppm NO3-N.
I
Shallow perc tests were conducted near the east and west ends of the proposed leachlines. Test j
results yielded dramatic differences, as illustrated in Table 2, even though the soils were similar.
The east boring was drilled with a B-24 Mobile Drill Rig,while the west boring was drilled by
hand auger. As has been observed in the past, the power auger seems to compact the sidewalls of
the soil boring, even though the walls of both borings were opened with a pry bar. Subsequently,
the two perc test results were averaged:
From the perc test results, the acceptance rate for the east leachline soils was 0.331 gallons/ft2/day.
The floor and sidewalls of the leachline trenches can manage: (0.667 ft x 2 sidewalls) x 2 ft floor
width=2.67 ft2/LFLL x 100 LFLL=266:8 ft2 x 0.331 gallons/ft2/day= 88.3 gpd. Taking the
average acceptance rate for both the east and west perc rates, 0.552 gallons/ft2/day was obtained.
Using the total effluent acceptance area, averaged for both the east and west leachlines:
(266.8 ft2+266.8 ft2 = 533.6 ft2)= 533.6 ft2 x 0.552 gallons/ft2/day=294.6 gpd.
If not mandated, consideration should be given to installing water meters on the main water inlets
into the restrooms. Volume usage may then be quantified by the week, month and year.
Consideration should be given to using biodegradable toilet paper since it is anticipated that paper
use may be significant. There are many brands on the market; Scotts®Rapid-Dissolving Toilet
Paper is an example.
LL i
Page -10-
Chesney Consulting
