West Laboratory: <br /> 1. Place infectious waste discards on carts located <br /> throughout laboratory. <br /> 2. The media room laboratory assistant will empty the carts <br /> by 4:30 P.M., and as needed throughout the day. <br /> 3 . Items on Mycobacteriology (Tb) and Mycology discard carts <br /> are transferred (wearing gloves) to the shelves in auto- <br /> clave room marked "contaminated". <br /> 4. Items on all other infectious waste discard carts are <br /> transferred (wearing gloves) directly into the Bio- <br /> hazardous Waste Box for discard; or, to the contaminated <br /> shelves in the autoclave room if they are to be <br /> autoclaved and saved. <br /> Note: Items should not go on to the shelves and then <br /> into the box. <br /> 5. At the end of each day, the media room laboratory <br /> assistant should check the counters and remove full <br /> discard bags "oor boxes and replace them with empty ones. <br /> Again, these full items are transferred to the back of <br /> the laboratory on the cart. <br /> B. East Laboratory:• <br /> 1. A Biohazardous Waste Box is now located in the East <br /> Laboratory. <br /> 2 . Only "autoclave and save" discards will be brought back <br /> to the West Laboratory for autoclaving. All other <br /> infectious waste generated in the East Laboratory will be <br /> discarded directly into the Biohazardous Waste Box <br /> located there. <br /> 3 . The serology laboratory assistant will close, tape and <br /> transport this box to Biohazardous Waste Bin when it <br /> if full. (Use hand truck) . <br /> C. Note: Use hand truck to move a full box to Biohazardous <br /> Waste Bin. Use building exits with ramps and sidewalks <br /> not stairs to transport the waste boxes to the bin. <br />
