0
4. You are now ready to start the decontamination cycle. Depress the green "start cycle" on
the control panel. The sterilizer will now perform the following functions:
A. Slowly inject steam until the internal temperature reaches 270 degrees F.
B. When reaching 270 degrees the sterilizer will run a 45 -minute decontamination
cycle and will continuously adjust and hold the internal temperature to this level.
C. At the end of the cycle all steam is discharged from the sterilizer, cooled to a
liquid state, then discharged to the sanitary sewer.
WHEN THE CYCLE IS COMPLETE
At the end of each cycle check the recorder to make sure that the sterilizer actually
achieved 270 degrees for the full programmed cycle. The recorder chart will be replaced
weekly prior to operating the steam sterilizer. The used chart will be kept on file in the
housekeeping office. If the sterilizer did not achieve 270 degrees for the full
programmed cycle, the housekeeping supervisor will notify Maintenance who will check
the unit and make the appropriate repairs. The trash must then be run through a second
cycle at the required time and temperature. Action taken must be noted on the chart.
2. Unlatch the safety level over the locking ring. (You will be unable to open the latch if
the pressure is not fully equalized.)
3. The door can now be opened and the carts removed. Pull the carts out using the metal
hook and extension. The sterilizer is now ready for the next load.
I have received training on and understand how to safely use the ste terilizer.
e IVDate Instructor Date
