CROTHALL HEALTHCARE INC. <br /> EVS CLEANING PROCEDURE <br /> Procedure#152—Medical Waste Handling <br /> Purpose: <br /> To maintain a safe, systematic method for the collection and proper disposal of <br /> medical infectious waste. <br /> Equipment and Supplies Needed: <br /> 1. Medical waste transport cart(gray tip cart with Biohazard symbols) <br /> 2. Red infectious waste liners (two sizes) <br /> 3. Utility gloves <br /> Procedure: <br /> 1. Assemble equipment. <br /> a. See above list. <br /> b. All medical waste is to be transported only in the approved cart. <br /> 2. Proceed to work area. <br /> a. Take transport cart to area where medical waste is to be picked up. <br /> 3. Load transport cart. <br /> a. Tie tops of full medical waste can liners. <br /> b. If the waste is a full sharps container,be sure that the protective cover is <br /> closed and locked down. <br /> c. Do not allow the liners or sharps containers to be overfilled. <br /> d. Lift full medical waste liners or sharps containers so that there is no <br /> contact with your body. <br /> e. Place in medical waste transport cart. <br /> f. Replace liner if necessary. <br /> 4. Transport cart to medical waste holding area. <br /> a. Always close the cover when transporting cart. <br /> b. Move quietly and cautiously. <br /> 5. Dispose of medical waste. <br /> a. Place medical waste in large gray barrels in the medical waste holding <br /> area. Do not overfill the large barrels; make sure that the lids can always <br /> fit tightly. <br /> b. When a large barrel is being filled, place a tracking sticker on the side to <br /> show that it is in use. <br /> (Revised 1-15-11) <br />
