Approximately 15-gallons released. City of Stockton MUD stopped the release before it reached City of Stockton
storm water system. The release was contained within the private sewer system. Fire department placed absorbent sand on
the asphalt to absorb diesel.
OBSERVATIONS:
On November 10, 2022 at approximately 11:36pm, San Joaquin County Environmental Health (EHD) received a page from
City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department regarding a 15-gallon diesel release in the parking lot of Extended Stay
America. Spoke with Brian Toledo, City of Stockton MUD, that someone was attempting to steal fuel from the truck which
released approximately 15-gallons of diesel which then lead to a private sewer storm drain belonging to Extended Stay
America. Fire department was on scene and placed absorbent sand onto the diesel on asphalt to absorb. City of Stockton
MUD was able to plug the private sewer system before the diesel reached the City of Stockton storm water system. Per
Brian, the diesel traveled approximately 70 feet in the private system.
EHD arrived on site at approximately 12:45am on November 11, 2022 to inspect the release. Absorbent sand was observed
around the pick up truck on the side of the storm drain. Looked down the storm drain and observed liquid inside flowing in
the west direction. Walked to the next storm drain in the parking lot in west direction but no liquid was observed in that storm
drain. Went inside the hotel to speak with a manager and spoke with staff who stated there was not a manager there but
provided the phone number for Gloria Guzman who is the new manager. The staff member stated she comes into work in
the morning.
Please be advised that the disposal of any waste [HSC 5411] or disposal of any hazardous waste, or the causing thereof, is
prohibited when the disposal is at a facility that is not permitted or authorized for hazardous waste disposal.
