Envitnunienial Infection Control <br />Policy Statement <br />Medical waste stored for treatment, disposal, or pick -Lip shall be protected in accordance with established policies <br />and procedures. <br />Policy Interpretation and Implementation <br />1. Containers of untreated medical waste will be labeled with a "biohazard" or "infectious medical waste" <br />water-resistant label affixed to the outside of the container. <br />2. Warning labels must be large enough to ensure that they are clearly visible and readable from a distance of <br />at least five (5) feet. <br />3. Containers of medical waste will be stored in the following location(s): <br />4. Note: Containers must be protected from the wind, rain, and water. <br />5. Medical waste that is likely to decay or rot before being treated, disposed of, or picked up, will be <br />refrigerated or kept in a manner that prevents the waste from decaying or rotting until it has been properly <br />disposed of. Medical wastes meeting this criteria will be maintained at the following location(s): <br />6. Medical wastes must be stored so that it is protected from animals and does not provide a food source for <br />insects and rodents. <br />7. Containers or buildings that are used to store medical wastes and sharps outdoors (e.g., dumpsters, sheds, <br />etc.), will be locked at all times to prevent unauthorized access. <br />8. Access to medical wastes storage areas are limited to the following personnel: <br />9.
