This warning sign shall be readily legible during daylight from a distance of 25 feet. <br />2. Red biohazard bags will be placed as a liner in a rigid bio -waste containers with tight fitting lids and <br />appropriate biohazardous warning labels. Red bags shall meet the specifications set by the MWMA <br />for tear/impact resistance with the following standards; ASTM D1709-97 and ASTM D1922 -94a. <br />Container types and storage requirements can be found In Appendix D. <br />3. Trace antineoplastic (chemotherapy) waste will be stored separately from all other types of medical <br />waste when stored in the medical/biohazardous waste storage area. Trace antineoplastic <br />(chemotherapy) waste will be stored in yellow DOT approved containers. All personnel must wear <br />appropriate PPE when handling antineoplastic (chemotherapy) waste containers. Container types <br />and storage requirements can be found in Appendix D-1 and D-2. <br />4. Medical waste containers in the medical/biohazardous waste storage area shall be checked for their <br />integrity monthly. <br />5. RCRA waste containers will be placed in all storage areas that require RCRA waste management. <br />The size of the RCRA container will depend on the anticipated amount of waste. They must be spill - <br />proof,, leak -proof, and properly labeled for the wastes#ream. When the RCRA container receives its <br />first item of waste, apply a DTSC compliant1abel (provided by the waste vendor) to the outside and <br />write the start date of accumulation on the label. Container types and storage requirem4nts can be <br />found in Appendix D-1 and D-2. <br />B. Spills: <br />1. For spills refer to the Code Orange tab in the Sutter Health Emergency Management Guide and <br />Hazardous Communication Policy Appendix D Spill Clean-up Procedures. <br />a. Cleaning up spilled medical waste: <br />i. Always practice good infection control. <br />ii. Gloves shall be worn during the cleanup procedure. If splashing is anticipated, protective <br />face shield shall be worn in addition to an impervious gown or apron and fluid resistant <br />boots. <br />Ill. Hand washing shall be performed by personnel after completion of the cleanup procedure. <br />iv. Mops and/or cleaning cloths used to clean up a blood or body fluid spill shall be <br />immediately considered soiled linen and shall not be used again prior to laundering. <br />v. When using the Universal Spill kit for blood and/or other potential infectious material <br />(OPIM) follow instructions on the spill kit and wear appropriate PPE. <br />b. Cleaning up medical waste involving sharps or other materials: <br />L For spills involving glass or other sharps, a broom, dustpan and a sharps disposal <br />container shall be used to pick up and dispose of any glass/sharps. <br />fl. After the removal of any potential sharps, visible material shall be removed from the area <br />by using a broom and dustpan to avoid contact with skin.
