! 0 <br />b. California Department of Transportation (DOT) Education Requirements: <br />I. Every employee who handles or packages medical waste or signs shipping papers <br />(manifests) must complete an online DOT training module In Healthstream. This training is <br />required to be renewed every three years, or when a change to the program occurs. <br />A. 1. a. I. In addition, those same employees must complete a 15 minute classroom training on how <br />to package medical waste for transportation. Detailed instructions for packaging the <br />Stericycle Reusable Sharps Container Program can be found in Appendix E. <br />2. Disposal of patient's unused medications and/or home -generated sharps: <br />a. VMF does not accept patients own medications and patient's home -generated sharps for <br />disposal. Patients will be referred to their city or county Household Hazardous Waste Program <br />that accepts home -generated sharps and unused medications.
