PRESTO
Called reporting party Brandon Farrell with PG&E who said he tried to call to report
with the hospital but they informed him to call back at 8:00am but he is glad I was
able to get the spill report. Per Brandon a car hit a pole which then caused the
underground cables to pull and disconnect cables in a pad mounted transformer.
The pad mounted transformer was damaged and caused a release of
approximately 150-gallons of blue-stickered oil to be released. PG&E is on site to
restore power. PSC is on route to conduct clean up. PSC will be pumping oil and
cleaning the impacted areas. The transformer is actively leaking and depending on
the time PSC arrives will dictate how much will need to be pumped out of the
transformer. Asked if they will be taking samples. Per Brandon this is the first he's
heard of taking samples of a blue stickered oil but he can request samples to be
taken if needed. Asked him to please have sample taken. Brandon will have PSC
take samples and will also inform PG&E foreman on site that I will be stopping by
this morning. Created complaint and checked surrounding area for schools. 3
schools near by within 0.5 miles: Dent Elementary School, Escalon High School
and Children's Christian Preschool. Wrote down phone numbers for schools and
Escalon Superintendent to make calls in the morning.
Arrived on site and met with Steven Johnson, PSC Lead. The pole was still in the
process of being replaced. PSC pumped approximately 85-gallons from the
transformer. Absorbent sand was placed around the transformer. Per Steven they
will be cleaning the pad and will be excavating 1 foot down into the impacted grass
surrounding the transformer. If they need to dig further than 1-foot they will USA
and continue after the USA results. PSC will continue clean up after the
transformer has been replaced. Wastes generated will be taken to PG&E Yard in
Oakdale. Steven is uncertain of the timeframe of the clean up completion. Will call
him back later in the morning to follow up.
(2:30 AM - 5:42 AM)
5105. rpt Page 1 of 3
