surf ace Seal
a cement -
."he remaining annualar space was sealed with
bentonite grout. The grout was mixed in a 55 gallon dram,
using arproximately 26 Gallons cf water, 18 pounds bentonite
powder, and Soo pounds neat cement. hater from the on-site
groundwater well was used in the grout. T
the bentonite
powder was poured onto the spray to pre -hydrate the
bentonite while the pump continued to circulate the mixture.
_Then -the cement was poured into the drum, and allowed to
circulate - vital the water- and- bentonite . _until the _Grout
mixture was free of all lumps.
The augers were removed before the grout seal was installed.
The `®envie pipe was lowered into the well to within 5 feet
of the bentonite seal, and the grout was pumped through the
trerie pipe until the entire annular space was filled.
T.e7l Protection
%ro7 cap covers the top of the casings, and a locking vault
was set in concrete to protect the well fr= unauthcr:.ze3
access. A Christy box with a metal lid was set in concrete
over the vault, a few inches above the grvand surface to
prevent ponding of water above the well.
