Box 6336
Stockton, CA 95206
SPLIT RESULTS FOR SAMPLES COLLECTED AT FORWARD LANDFILL, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
(CASE #2209)
Enclosed with this letter is an analysis of a split water sample I took when
MW-6 was sampled by California Water Labs on 22 January 1988. ,This analysis
shows the presence of benzene, toluene, and xylene in the low parts per billion
range. Since MW-6 is supposed to be an upgradient well in an agricultural area,
I would not expect to find these chemicals. This well should be resampled as
soon as possible to determine if there actually is pollution in the well , or if
this is a result of lab or sampling equipment contamination. California Water
Labs gave me an equipment blank at the time of the sampling, but that blank was
unusable due to bubbles in the sample bottle. I suggest that you contact
California Water Labs and determine if they were able to analyze any of their
equipment blanks. According to Steve Furnas of California Water Labs, the
sampling rig was sampling ground water at Sharpe Army Depot before moving to
Forward. It is possible that contamination was carried from that site.
Please let me know when you plan to resample MW-6. If you have any questions,
contact me at (916) 361-5737.
TIMOTHY CkANDALL \
Project Engineer f )
TAC:sg
Enclosure
cc: Mr. Joe Franz, Department of Health Services, Sacramento
JJK Alan Biederman, San Joaquin County Local , Health District
Mr. Dan Maglionico, EBA Associates, Orangevale
Ms. Carolyn Richardson, California Farm Bureau Federation, Sacramento
