MELJUMAILY & BUTLER ASSOCIATES
DA Waste Management Consultants rTAI HEp,LTH
EN F ERNIII/SER'VICES
July 12, 1988
Alan Beiderman
Environmental Health Department
San Joaquin County Health District
1601 E. Nazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
Dear Alan:
Enclosed are the results of the sampling event at the
Forward landfill which took place in June of this year. As
you can see, most of the wells have been found to contain
no contamination above drinking water standards.
Two wells, however, do show anomalous concentrations of
contaminates which constitute violations. The sampling of
MW-4 found there to be Beene present while MW-5 detected
a number of items, several of which are above acceptable
standards. The source of the pollution in MW-5 may be
attributed to contaminated water percolating vertically
downward from the adjacent stream or, in the case of both
wells, a migration of contaminates from the once active
surface impoundments. The only other detected
contaminate is coliform which was found in four of the
wells.
The laboratory doing the analysis work, Multi-Tech Labs,
exceeded the holding time of the 601/602 for MW-5, which in
itself is reason to resample the well. Also, they verbally
indicated that there were some unidentified peaks on the
run, however, did not retest the sample for 624 because the
holding time had already passed.
EBA proposes to resample MW-5 for the entire set of
parameters previously tested, that is, all the parameters
seen on the attached sheets, along with EPA 624 . We will
also test MW-4 for purgeable aromatics (602) , MW-8 for
metals and wells MW-7, MW-9, MW-10 for fecal coliform. In
addition to these wells, we propose to sample South Little
Johns Creek at a location adjacent to MW-5 and also at the
west property line, testing for purgeable aromatics (602)
and metals.
825 Sonoma Ave., Suite C Post Office Box 4600 Santa Rosa, California 95402 (707) 544-0784 FAX (707) 544-0866
Also Auburn, California and Las Vegas, Nevada
