Mr. Greg Basso -3-
21 April 1989
As discussed in our previous correspondence, construction of
WMU D-88 started without engineered plans and without Board
approval. One result of these circumstances is the
uncertainty about the thickness and permeability of the
liner. We have also expressed our concern that the final
slopes on the trench wall may be too steep for the soil
conditions at the site. These side walls may be a hazard to
both the facility employees, truck drivers, and visitors.
During our meeting on 14 April 1989, we discused upcoming
construction projects and areas for improvement in planning,
design, construction and testing of new waste management
units. We anticipate that greater mutual awareness in these
areas will lead to better results in construction and testing
of new units and a smoother approval process in the future.
If you have any questions, please call Steve Rosenbaum at
(916) 361-5732.
WILLIAM J.
