9710MEEMMMIM
Mr. Steve Rosenbaum
Regional Water Quality Control Board
Central Valley Region
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098
IIE: Final Construction Report, Lower Triangle - Pit D82
Iear Steve:
GINIIN 73
0 1 JJIMW
0 1 JJIMW
and operating properly prior to the final burial.
The initial construction in the pit involved recompacting the liner and placing
a vapor barrier over the clay. After removing weeds and vegetation the liner
surface was wetted and scarified to remediate desiccation cracks formed
since the disposal pit was constructed. Additional liner soil was placed over
the floor to supplement the bottom liner at the periphery of the pit to
construct a 1.5% bottom slope rather than the 1.0% original slope. The liner
was recompacted, graded and several density tests were performed by
Kleinfelder to insure adequate compaction was attained. A 10 mil plastic
vapor barrier was placed over the clay liner and overlapped onto the surface
collection trench. Approximately 8 inches of soil was placed over the vapor
barrier as a protective layer.
Additional construction was done on the two leachate sumps located along
the western wall of Pit D88. The transfer pipe from the northern sump .Aias
removed from the sump, cleaned, replaced in the Christy box, and grouted.
The sides of both sump boxes were reinforced with steel and approximately
12 inches of additional concrete. The inside floor of the box was raised by
the addition of concrete to prevent the standing of leachate in the box. A
1/4 inch steel top was placed over the boxes and 12 inches of concrete
was poured as a cover. Filter rock was replaced around the sumps and the
area was covered with a layer of Supack 4.5 filter fabric. Approximately 6
to 8 inches of sand was placed over the fabric as added filter material to aid
in preventing the filter blanket with clogging from excessive silt.
825 Sonoma Ave., Suite C Post Office 4600 Santa Rosa, California 95402 (707) 544-0784 FAX (707) 544-0866
Also Auburn, California and Las Vegas, Nevada
