4. Summary and Recommendations
C:\TRICH\Jobs\4515582 Leprino Tracy\Report\Leprino Tracy CalARP 040221.docx 4-2
4.2 Recommendations
Refer to Sections 2 and 3 for detailed descriptions of vulnerabilities observed and
recommended actions. A summary of the recommendations is reiterated below:
• Continue the five-year CalARP revalidation process as described in Reference 2.
• Verify whether anchorage is provided for the Ice Builder (IB-1) located in the
Intercooler Yard. If necessary, retain the services of a professional structural
engineering company to verify the existing anchorage or design new anchorage.
• The glycol chiller and pump skids in Glycol Room 2 are not anchored. Retain the
services of a professional structural engineering company to design anchorage
for the skids.
• Bracing of Evaporators (EV-1 to EV-19) suspended below the roof framing
appears marginal depending on the location. Retain the services of a
professional structural engineering company to verify any existing bracing and
design new bracing as necessary.
• Support for ammonia piping at the roof appears to be marginal to inadequate in
many locations. Retain the services of a professional structural engineering
company to verify the existing support conditions and design additional
anchorage or bracing as necessary. In addition, the presence of lateral restraints
for ammonia piping to the steel supports should be verified and provided as
required.
Implementation of these recommendations in a reasonable time would not only lower the
risk of seismic induced release of state regulated substances, but also lower the risk of
damage to buildings and equipment (i.e. capital loss), improve life-safety and minimize
business interruption.
