The <br />requirements, specincations and procedures presented with the plan will apply to all personnel on-site, <br />_ . including employees,-sut;wntra,e:;.ors, site visitors and regulatory agency pe.:sQnnel. . <br />H���.RD Asti FLYS I S - <br />The most significant tisk associated with petroleum contaminated soil is ez-posure to aromatic <br />compounds. S6:.n contact will be eliminated by use of clothing, eye wear, and gloves and the inhalacon <br />hazard w-ilI be minimized using appropriate respiratory protective devices as determined by on-site air <br />monitoring. The Safety Coordinator/Project Manager will establish an �Yclusion zone encompassing a a0- <br />Eootradius Erom the work aye's. Access within this zone will be limited to required personnel. Total <br />or�,anic vapors will be monitored within the exclusion zone using a phoroionization detector (PID) <br />calibrated Eor benzene, the most toxic of the aromatic hydrocarbons. Current enforceable and <br />recommended ezposure limitations Eor potential site contaminants are presented in Table 1. <br />PERSONhL PROTECTIVE EOL.�IPI1�iEi�TT <br />_-� minimum of li.S. EPA level D protection will be required within u`�e exclusion zone Eor any worsens <br />engsged in sample collection or other activities on this site. Level D protection will include: <br />® Disposable Tvve.L- coverall (when in contact with contaminated material) <br />® Boots with steel toe <br />® Splash goggles or safety glasses <br />® Chemical resistant disposal gloves (when in conn.ct witlh conciminated material` <br />Level C protection will be required if PID readings e_-cceedin� 10 ppm over back�?round <br />concentration are recorded in the workers' breathing zone. Level C protection will consist of: <br />® Disposable Tvvek coverall <br />® Boots with steel roe <br />® Chemical resistant boot covers <br />Chemical resistant disposal gloves (inner) <br />® Chemical resistant outer gloves <br />® ivtSH.A/tiIOSH approved halt-maskair-purifying respirator with dual o �rar:ic vapor car�idges <br />PID readings e_Yceeding 250 ppm in the workers' breathing zone will require work stoppage and <br />site evacuation. t�.n e_Yplosion-proof fan may be used to vent the work area. <br />D E C O NT:��II�d��.TI O N <br />During all held operations, care will be taken to minimize contact wit.; soils and ground water.
