4 Environmental Analysis
4.7 Geology, Soils, and Paleontological Resources
In the Project site and gen-tie corridor, the most generic mapping (Jennings et al. 2010) shows
the Tertiary and Cretaceous rock units covered by more recent Quaternary sediment (see Figure
4.7-1). Table 4.7-1 provides descriptions for all the rock units shown on the map. Of particular
importance are the four rock units that are present at or in the vicinity immediately surrounding
the Project Site (Q, QPc, M, and Ku). Note the first two of these (Q, QPc) are Quaternary age
deposits of unconsolidated or loosely consolidated sediments. The more detailed mapping by
Dibblee (1980) and Wagner et al. (1991) provide a better picture of the underlying bedrock
geology, which can occur at the surface or under a thin (2-to 6-foot) covering of sediment (Figure
4.7-2).
Griffith Energy Storage Project 4.7-2 Tetra Tech/SCH 2022120675
Draft Environmental Impact Report August 2023
