4 Environmental Analysis
4.10 Hydrology/Water Quality
topographic low point in the Central Valley where flow from the Sacramento River and San
Joaquin River converge before draining into San Francisco Bay through the Suisun and San
Pablo Bays. The nearest named streams, which also drain to the Delta, are Patterson Run to the
north and Corral Hollow Creek to the south (see Figure 4.10-1).
The local drainage area includes a main channel, a primary tributary, and a secondary tributary
that combine to encompass the Project site (see Figure 4.10-2). The main channel watershed
receives runoff from the Tesla Substation, a small part of the gen-tie line and some of the
proposed facility, as well as flows from the channels conveying water from the primary and
secondary tributaries. The primary tributary watershed includes most of the gen-tie line and some
of the facility footprint. The secondary tributary receives runoff from the remainder of the facility
footprint. There is a short section of the Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) gen-tie line that falls just
outside of the local drainage area, with drainage to Patterson Run.
The proposed facility is located on a topographic high point with drainage heading in three
different directions. On the west side of the Project site, surface runoff heads west or northwest
to the primary tributary watershed, which is an ephemeral channel that cuts across the northwest
corner of the Project site. Most of the southern portion of the Project site drains to the much
smaller secondary tributary watershed, from which the drainage course leaves the Project site in
the southeast corner. Runoff from the remaining area of the Project site flows toward the north or
northeast and ultimately reaches the main drainage, which is separate from the main channel of
the larger watershed, downstream from (north of) the Project area (see Figure 4.10-2).
Griffith Energy Storage Project 4.10-2 Tetra Tech/SCH 2022120675
Draft Environmental Impact Report August 2023
