HAZARDS: a) warning curbs: abrupt changes in levels, except between a walk or <br /> the sidewalk and an adjacent street or driveway, exceeding <br /> 4 inches in vertical dimension shall be identified by curbs <br /> projecting at least 6 inches in height above the walk or <br /> sidewalk surface toward the blind of potential drop off. A <br /> curb is not required if a guard rail or Henry is present with <br /> a guard rail center 2 to 4 inches above walking surface. <br />7. RAMPS: a) landings required at top and bottom; intermediate landings required every <br /> 30 inches of rise, and add maximum horizontal distance based on slope as <br /> shown below: <br />b) any power greater than 1:20 is considered a ramp. <br />Facilities Access <br />Facilities serving Buildings or portions of buildings which are required <br />to be accessible to the disabled so conform to the following: <br />PASSAGE WAYS: a) doorways: 32” clear width. <br /> b)level, clear areas 60” deep in direction of door sweep <br /> c) restroom doors shall be provided with signage centered and 60 inches <br /> from floor as follows: <br />SIGN TYPE “B” <br />1. Unisex: equilateral triangle quarter inch thick superimposed on and within <br /> a circle 1/4” thick x 12” diameter <br /> d)permanently labeled doors: raise letters and braille to be mounted on adjacent <br /> wall on strike side of door(right side at double doors) @ 60” above finish floor <br />TURN AROUNDS: a) clear space from floor to 27 inches above floor consisting of a 60 inch diameter <br /> circle or a T-shaped space with each of the three arms at least 36 inches wide, <br /> downstroke arm at least 60 inches long(including intersection), and cross-stroke <br /> with arms extending at least 12 inches on each side of intersection. <br /> b) except doorways, an access way of 44” wide to handicap water closet shall be <br /> provided. <br />WATER CLOSET COMPARTMENTS: <br /> a) Doors shall be automatic closing, with 32 inches clear opening with when door <br /> is located at the end of store, 34 inches clear opening with when door is located <br /> at side of the store; 60 inches clear required in front of compartment door. <br /> Handles shall be loop or U-shaped below latch in flip-over style, sliding or other <br /> styles not required grasping or twisting. <br />GRAB BARS: a) grab bars shall be 1 1/4” to 1 1/2” nominal diameter,1 1/2” clear of wall, <br /> non-rotating and be able to withstand 250 pounds of force. <br />AREA OF REFUGE: <br /> a) which area of refuge shall be sized to accommodate 1 wheelchair space not less <br /> than 30" x 48" for each 200 occupants. <br /> b) wheelchair spaces so not reduce the required exit width <br /> c) areas of refuge shall be provided with two way communication systems between <br /> the area of refuge and a central control point.
