Transfer/Processing Report
Tracy Materia/Recovery& Transfer Facility
30703 S. MacArthur Drive, Tracy, California 95377
waste will be delivered to the transfer station for inclusion into outbound MSW
transfer operations.
Prior to grinding, the food waste is required to be free of large contaminants that
could cause damage to the equipment or be deleterious to the digestion or
composting process. Plastic and other contaminant material may be removed
manually on the floor or on the sort line. Material is fed into the hopper from where
it is metered into a horizontal hammermill grinder. The hammers, which are attached
to a rotor or shaft, impact the feed material, breaking it into smaller pieces and
forcing it through a screen, which is a series of cast grates. The material remains
inside the hammermill and is crushed or torn between the hammers and grates until
its size is sufficiently reduced to pass through the grates where it is discharged onto
a conveyor below. Physical contaminants from the process are discharged through
a separate output chute.
A transfer truck or container would receive the processed food waste from the
equipment discharge chute. The anticipated system capacity is 20 tons per hour but
may vary depending on the materials being sorted and on any future upgrades or
additions. Other mechanisms, procedures or technologies may be incorporated into
the system to improve its capabilities in the future.
Solar Panel;
The roof top of the Building would support solar panels with the capability to
generate up to 800 kilo-watt hour of renewable energy. Current regulations allow
the installation of solar panels administratively. The project is explicitly stated here
to demonstrate the transformation of Facility into using carbon neutral energy
sources.
Composting Facility
A detailed project description of the composting process is presented in Section II
of this document. The composting technology to accommodate food waste will
included a covered aerated static pile system.
Construction and Demolition/Inert Debris Processing Operations
A detailed CDI project description is provided in Section III of this document. The
below information presents a brief summary of the proposed operations.
Biomass Gasification Unit
The Biomass Gasification Unit proposes to use 40 TPD of processed clean wood
waste to generate 1 mega-watt of energy for on-site use.
The current operations have clean wood waste recovered from the mixed C&D
Processing Facility being ground into wood chips. The wood waste is stockpiled on
a pad for a maximum period of 30 days. Chipping and grinding generally occurs
within a few days. The wood chips are loaded from the stockpile into transfer trailers
13
