z:\projects\allied waste\forward\resource recovery facility\5 yr permit rvw 2013-14\rcsi 2014\appendices\app e - vector control plan.doc
Page 2 of 2

Birds
Additionally, nuisance birds will be controlled by reducing litter through the litter collection
program. If nuisance birds ever become an issue at the facility, the use of caps, kites, and/or
falconry-based abatement may be utilized as control measures. In the event that caps are utilized
in the future as bird deterrents, noise levels will be monitored and controlled, as needed.
Transfer Station
For the transfer station, recyclables, such as glass and aluminum cans, that are stored overnight
are kept on the tipping floor to deter vectors, birds, and rodents. The majority of waste handling
activities are conducted in the partially enclosed RRF building (open on one side).
Compost Facility
For the compost facility, typical high temperatures maintained in the active compost are
sufficient to kill pathogens, insect larvae, and insects.
Recordkeeping
Records of monitoring and any corrective measures taken to address infestations, should they
occur, are maintained at the facility.
