Following is a description of some clarifications and a list of
some materials that we propose to use for the project:
(1) - A pdf is attached (Figures 1 and 2), which shows ETIC's proposed trench
construction method (i.e., excavating the upper 7 feet of existing material,
followed by then excavating the remainder of the 3 -foot wide collection
trench).
(2) - As agreed upon during our site visit on August 29, 2006, the trench will
be installed approximately 20 feet beyond existing wells VW -4 and VW -5, for a
total length of approximately 170 feet. The total depth of the trench will
extend to approximately 24 feet below the existing ground surface (bgs) based
upon our measurement of the depth to groundwater during our site visit
(approx. 19 feet bgs in well MW -01) and the desire to extend the trench to a
depth of 5 feet below the groundwater surface elevation.
(3) - Per the attached drawings, 3/4 -inch drain rock will be used to backfill
the trench from the bottom of the trench up to 7 feet bgs. At 7 feet bgs, a
Mirafi 140NC nonwoven geotextile fabric will be placed, followed by 4 -inch
diameter Schedule 40 PVC well screen with 0.040 -inch slot size that will be
placed on top of the fabric. Approximately 2 feet of additional 3/4 -inch
drain rock will be placed on top of the well screen, and then the fabric will
be wrapped around the drain rock.
(4) - A total of 4 vent pipes will be installed at 50 -foot intervals per the
attached drawings with three 4 -inch diameter by 6 -foot long concrete -filled
steel bollards around each vent pipe. A 4 -foot by 4 -foot by 1 -foot thick
concrete pad will be poured around each vent pipe and three bollards (Note
that there are some slight modifications, primarily in materials and fittings,
that have been made to the URS schematic of the bollard/vent pipe that you
previously provided).
We're looking forward to starting this project on Wednesday, September 6th!
Also, our Health and Safety Plan is currently being finalized and should be
completed by tomorrow --please let me know if you would like to see a copy of
the plan prior to the start of the project.
Thanks,
Alan J.
