The monitor
interfaces to the Sentry hazardous gas risk
management system or uses a 4-20 mA
output signal to interface to other
controllers
1
1
L
The IR Gas Sensor Module utilizes Non -Dispersive
Infrared technology to monitor for combustible
gases (Methane and others). Output range is either
0-100% of LEL (default) or percent (%) by volume.
This Module requires minimal maintenance with a
calibration check once a year. Internal continuous
self -diagnostics will automatically indicate any fault
or optics problems. The 5100-28 interfaces directly
with the Sierra Monitor Sentry Controller via the
Sentry digital bus or directly to other devices using
RS -485 Modbus RTU serial output or a 4-20 mA
analog output signal. With the Sentry system the
user has the capability of Modbus serial
communications, extensive diagnostic features,
multiplexing sensor connections, and field -proven
reliability.
Infrared technology has the benefits of:
• Reduced need for calibration and thus lower
operating costs.
• Operates in high combustible gas and/or low
oxygen environment
• Can operate in environments where catalytic
bead poisons might exist
• Rapid recovery after exposure to high
concentrations of hydrocarbon gas
(exceeding 100% LEL)
Specifications:
Sensor type:
Infrared, Dual Wavelength
Performance
(HxWxD)
Dual Range:
Weight:
Default:
0-100% LEL Methane or Propane
User Setting:
0-100% by vol. The principle of
an infrared detector is based upon the absorption of
the infrared light at a specific wavelength as it
passes through the gas. The more of the absorbing
gas that is present, the more light is absorbed. The
detector measures the energy from an infrared light
beam at a wavelength that is absorbed by the gas
and compares it to the energy emitted by the
source. The difference in energy received by the
detector indicates the level of gas in the
atmosphere.
Electrical Data:
Power consumption:
Connection type:
Input voltage:
Operating Range:
Ambient Temp Range:
Relative Humidity:
3 watts
3 wire
24 VDC nominal: 10-30VDC
-40 to 140OF (-200 to 600C)
5-99%
Construction:
Dimensions:
7.5 x 5.0 x 4.8 inches
(HxWxD)
(21.6 x 12.7 x 12.2 cm)
Weight:
2.7 Ib.
