SEVIONFOUR Site Hazard Analysis
skin.Heat stroke is a life-threatening condition, and immediate medical attention is required if any
symptoms of heat stroke are observed. Heat stress control procedures include the following:
• Potable water and/or GatoradeTM will be made available to the field team throughout the workday.
Field personnel will be encouraged to drink fluids frequently. Field teams working outdoors
continuously should break for water at least every hour.
• A shaded rest area will be provided as required near the work site. If very hot temperatures are
anticipated(greater than 90°F),consideration will be given to shifting the work schedule to morning,
evening,or nighttime hours. If nighttime operations are anticipated, appropriate illumination will be
provided.
Cold Stress
Any time work is performed outdoors in damp conditions below 507 or anytime temperatures are below
32°F,cold stress procedures will be instituted in accordance with SMS 059, Cold Stress.
The purpose is to protect project personnel from hypothermia and/or frostbite.
Important requirements of SMS 059 include:
• Wear several layers of clothing.
• Wear a hat.
• Wear insulated boots.
• Keep a change of dry clothing in case work clothes become wet.
• Do not wear tight fitting clothing.
• Drink plenty of warm liquids(avoid caffeine and alcohol).
• Take breaks out of the cold using engineering controls:
Provide shelter to escape cold, wind, and precipitation,
Provide a source of heat,and
Use insulating materials on equipment handles below 30°F.
DO NOT IGNORE SHIVERING—IT CAN BE A PRECURSOR TO HYPOTHERMIA.
4.1.2 Adverse Weather
The SSO,in consultation with the PM,will determine if outdoor field activities can be continued in a safe
manner. In the event of high winds, electrical storms, heavy rain,or visibility-impairing conditions,
outdoor activities will be terminated, and field personnel will remain inside the vehicles until conditions
improve. Some outdoor activities may be permitted during inclement weather(e.g.,rain,wind),but
personnel must be alert to possible slip-trip-fall-hazards, and must limit activities to safe areas at ground
level.
UMH:\WPROCESS\25532\WORLDENTERPRISE\WELL DESTRUCTIOMATTACHMENT C WORLD ENTERPRISES HSP TG EDITS.DOC\18-NOV-11\\4-2
