'. Ms. Natalia Subbotnikova
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
' December 1, 2011 Page 3 of
The flush-mounted well cover and concrete pad will be removed. As discussed with you on
' November 4, 2011, each well will be pressure-grouted from total depth to near surface and capped
with using Portland Type I/11 cement with approximately 3% bentonite powder. An approximate
2-foot-diameter area(measured from the well casing) will be excavated to allow for the grout cap. The
' approximate bottom of the excavation pit will be approximately 2 feet bgs,but no deeper than 4 feet
bgs. The well casing will be cut to the depth of the bottom of the excavated pit.
' Soil removed from the excavation pit will be spread over the decommissioned well, if the soil contains
less than 1% of visible solid waste. If the soil contains more than 1% visible solid waste, the soil and
solid waste will be placed in appropriately labeled 55-gallon drums and stored on-site disposal at an
' appropriate off-site landfill. An SJCEHD representative will be present during well decommissioning
activities.
' TABLE 1
Well Construction Details
' Borehole Casing Screen Total Borehole
Diameter Casing Diameter Interval Depth
inches Material inches feet bgs) feet bgs)
' MW-1 8 SCH 40 PVC 2 13-28 32
MW-2 8 SCH 40 PVC 2 10-25 25
' MW-3 8 SCH 40 PVC 2 14-29 29
bgs = below ground surface
SCH 40 PVC = Schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride
Health and Safety
' URS will conduct a health and safety meeting with all field staff, including subcontractors, before
field work begins.
