Natalia i i • i
From: Taj Ba adori <tbahadori@sjgov.org>
Sent: Monday, July 14, 2014 8:08 AM
To: Robert McClellon [EH]
Cc: Natalia Subbotnikova [EH]; Billy Baier; Joyesh Chandra; Michael Carroll
Subject: FW: Update on Corral Hollow Landfill Activity
Attachments: CntyFig4.pdf, CntyFig2.pdf, 2014-06-16-IntOp-OK.pdf
This is to update you on the recent activities at the Corral Hollow Landfill.
Per our letter, except for a small amount of soil retained at the top deck for filling depressions there, the
piles of soil were removed as requested. Some of the soil was moved to the borrow area at the west side
of the property as mentioned, the remainder was placed along the general alignment of two drainage berms
that we intend to finish in September. I have attached two figures showing the location of these berms.
We have also been investigating issues with our landfill gas collection system, looking for low spots and
leaks. To that end, last Friday, we excavated at two areas: the first was in the flare station to expose the
condensate sump -to -header connection, the second was a LFG header road crossing on the eastern side
of the landfill. The road crossing has been backfiled, but the excavation in the flare station remains open at
this time, taped -around for safety. We found sub -standard connections on the high-pressure air system
there, one of which was leaking. This excavation remains open while we get a quote from our contractor to
replace the sub -standard fittings with factory-fabficated fittings.
Finally the gas production rate continues to decline, and we are unable to keep the flare lighted for more
than about four or five days at a time. Lately we have been running the flare until it shuts down due either
to low temperature or loss of flame, then restarting it a few days later. The Air District (letter attached)
clarified that intermittent operation of the LFG system was not prohibited by our permit or regulations.
Thanks, Taj
