• Must be kept in a closed container <br />that is compatible with the waste <br />• Labeled with: <br />▪“Universal Waste” <br />▪Type of waste <br />▪Accumulation start date <br />• Stored on-site for no more than one <br />year (365 days) <br />• Recycle records are to be kept for <br />three years <br />Hazardous Waste & Universal Waste Management <br />Universal Waste <br />As with hazardous waste, universal waste must be packaged in compatible containers and <br />kept securely closed. Universal waste containers can only be open when universal waste is <br />being added to or removed from the containers. <br />Each universal waste container must be labeled with a purple universal waste label. The <br />purple universal waste label must include the following: <br />•The words “Universal Waste” <br />•Contents to identify the specific type of universal waste <br />•The shipper (which is your site) <br />•And the accumulation start date <br />Universal waste can be accumulated at your site for up to one year. The one‐year <br />accumulation start date begins as soon as the universal waste is generated and will be the <br />accumulation start date on the label. <br />The head custodian will maintain all universal waste recycle records. Recycle records will be <br />maintained at your site for three years from the date of shipment. <br />53
