Appendix A-Sampling and Analysis Plan BSK Project E19-016-01F
Stockton Metropolitan Airport(SCK) March 1, 2023
Stockton, California Page 5
4. SAMPLING METHODOLOGIES
A two-person sample team is recommended: one team member obtains the samples, and the other
records the samples in the Chain-of-Custody (COC) form with sample collection information. If only one
person is collecting samples, wearing layered nitrile gloves such that the top layer can be discarded in the
transition from dirty hands to clean hands. Site observations such as site characteristics and atmospheric
conditions should be recorded. Pictures are to be taken documenting the specific conditions encountered
and how the samples are collected. Field equipment, sampling containers, sampling collection and
storage, laboratory analysis, and equipment decontamination procedures are summarized in the sections
below.
4.1 Field Equipment
Allowable materials include high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene, silicone, stainless steel,
nylon, PVC, acetate, and cotton. Do not use any equipment that contains any known fluoropolymers
including but not limited to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, i.e. Teflon® and Hostaflon°), polyvinylidene
fluoride (PVDF, i.e. Kynar°), polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE, i.e. Neoflon°), ethyl ene-tetrafluoro-
ethylene (ETFE, i.e.Tefzel°),fluorinated ethylene propylene(FEP, i.e.Teflon°, Hostaflon°, and Neoflon®),
and glass. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) should not be used for any items that will come into direct
contact with the sample media. Equipment that contains PFAS materials such as Teflon° coated parts can
be used if the PFAS is internal to the equipment and does not come in direct contact with the environment.
If in doubt about a product, an equipment blank sample should be collected and analyzed.
Presented on Table A-1 is a list of field equipment to be used for soil and water samples. The field
equipment will be transferred to each PRA using a truck. A water level sounder will be used to measure
groundwater levels. All field personnel will be trained in the proper use of field equipment pertaining to
soil and water sampling.
4.2 Sampling Containers
All bottles used for PFAS sampling, with the exception of soil sleeves and push probe acetate liners, will
be supplied by the laboratory that will also be preforming the PFAS analysis. Sample containers to be
used are summarized in Table A-2.
ElLs
a
