Geosyntec consultants • Site 31 • Site 42 • Central Area (Sites 2, 5A, 513, 5C, 43 and 49) • Landfill Area(Site 39, IAS-3/4, IAS-07 and IAS-16) 1.3 Previous Environmental Investigations A significant amount of data has been collected and analyzed over the last 40 years to improve the understanding of the hydrogeology, groundwater quality, and fate and transport of constituents of concern(COCs) at RRI: • 89 piezometers and 366 wells have been installed and gauged. • Approximately 370 grab-groundwater samples have been collected. • 13 stream gauges have been installed and gauged. • 346 wells have been sampled for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). • Groundwater samples have been collected at RRI for analysis of VOCs, total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), metals, pesticides, dioxins and furans, herbicides,polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) aroclors, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), radionuclides,per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pharmaceuticals and personal care products including DEET and bisphenol a, and general chemistry parameters. • Surface water samples have been collected at RRI for analysis of VOCs, TPH, metals, organochlorine pesticides, dioxins and furans, PCBs, PAHs, radionuclides, and general chemistry parameters. • Sediment samples have been collected at RRI for analysis of VOCs and general chemistry parameters. • Three groundwater pumping tests have been conducted at RRI. The Navy conducted numerous environmental investigations and remedial actions prior to the property transfer to the Port, including the following: • In 1984, the Navy conducted an lnitial Assessment Study(IAS), which primarily focused on assessment of the Landfill Area and led to estimates of the volumes and locations of potentially hazardous materials. 1 The Site 3 Area has also been referred to as the Agriculture Area. 2 The Site 4 Area has also been referred to as the Warehouse Area. 3 The Central Area has also been referred to as the Administrative Area or the Site 49 Area.
