Foothill Sanitary Landfill 9 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
First Semiannual 2025 Groundwater Monitoring ©2025 County of San Joaquin. All rights reserved.

3.2 Surface Water
Surface water samples are collected after the first storm of the rainy season that produces
significant flow and semiannually thereafter, when water is present. Surface water samples are
collected from monitoring points SW-1 (upstream) and SW-2 (downstream) of the landfill
(Figure 3).
Surface water samples are analyzed for the following field and monitoring parameters
semiannually:
 Temperature  Chloride
 Electrical Conductivity  Sulfate
 pH  Nitrate-Nitrogen
 Turbidity  Calcium
 Total Dissolved Solids  Magnesium
 Carbonate Alkalinity  Sodium
 Bicarbonate Alkalinity  Potassium
 VOCs
Surface water samples are also analyzed for the following COCs every 5 years:
 Inorganics (dissolved)  Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds
 VOCs (extended list)  Chlorophenoxy Herbicides
 Organophosphorus
Compounds
3.3 Leachate
Leachate samples are collected monthly from the sump under Module 1 (Table 6). Field
parameters measured monthly include:
 Total Volume  Flow rate
 pH  Electrical Conductivity
Leachate samples are analyzed annually for the following parameters as specified in the WDRs:
 Chloride  Nitrate-Nitrogen
 Total Dissolved Solids  Sulfate
 Calcium  Potassium
 Magnesium  Sodium
 Carbonate Alkalinity  Bicarbonate Alkalinity
 VOCs
