2025 ANNUAL GROUNDWATER MONITORING REPORT
TEICHERT AGGREGATES AND GRANITE CONSTRUCTION VERNALIS AREA
vandalized in 2005. In 2019, Granite#3 was no longer in operation and was replaced with Granite#5 for
water quality monitoring purposes. From 1994 to 1997,the Koster irrigation well was sampled
periodically(depending on the availability of a tractor engine for the pump).
Samples from the water quality network wells are analyzed for electrical conductivity(EC),total
dissolved solids(TDS), pH,general minerals(calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, sulfate, chloride,
total alkalinity[including hydroxide, carbonate, and bicarbonate alkalinity], and total hardness), nitrate,
nitrite, fluoride, boron, and metals(copper, iron, manganese, and zinc). Samples from the Hall and
Faulkner domestic wells are also analyzed for coliform bacteria (SM 9221B [15-tube] procedure with
fecal confirmation). Phosphorus sampling was discontinued in 1998.
Teichert's ongoing monitoring and reporting activities are inclusive of(and exceed) activities specified in
Granite's approved Groundwater Monitoring Plan (I-SCE, 2009). Specifically, Granite's approved
Groundwater Monitoring Plan includes:
1. Semi-annual groundwater level measurements in five shallow wells(Hall, Rustan,Thoming,
Koster,4S/6E-5A1), one composite well (Petz),and four deep wells(South Tracy#3,Granite
#4, Brown's#1, Brown's New). Faulkner is used in place of the destroyed Thoming well.
Blewitt Domestic is used in place of Koster. Data from South Tracy#1,South Tracy 9054,
Granite#3, and Granite#5 are available to supplement data for South Tracy#3 and Granite
#4.
2. Semi-annual groundwater quality retrieval from one shallow well (Hall)and three deep wells
(South Tracy#3, Granite#3,and Brown's New). Granite#5 and/or Granite#4 are used in
place of Granite#3. Groundwater quality laboratory analyses shall consist of the same
constituents listed above for Teichert's compliance monitoring activities minus nitrite,
fluoride,total hardness, and bacteriological analyses.
3 SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Prior to the wells'annual sampling, depth-to-water measurements are obtained in relation to the wells'
surveyed reference points, i.e.,the top of the well casings, by lowering an electrical sounder in the well
casing following the manufacturer's guidelines. Field staff double-checks readings and records
measurements to the nearest 0.01 foot. Beginning in May 2024,wells that have had entanglement
issues or blockages inside the well have had water levels measured with an acoustic sounder. All
elevations are given in reference to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, i.e.,the mean sea
level datum (msl). It is noted on the field sheet, whether the well was pumping at arrival.
Wells are purged until indicator parameters(temperature, pH,and electrical conductivity) have
stabilized prior to sample retrieval.Stabilization is defined as consecutive readings where parameters do
not vary by more than 5 percent.Visual (color, occurrence of solids),olfactory(odor)and other
observations(e.g.,wellhead conditions,well access,ground conditions,weather)are noted as
appropriate. The following instrumentation is used by LSCE staff:
