• Body art jewelry (prior to initial piercing) <br /> • Portable light fixture arms or handles (if touched during procedure) <br /> • Measuring devices or stencils (if reused) <br /> Cleaning and Sterilization Process <br /> Initial Cleaning (Pre-Sterilization) <br /> o Wear disposable gloves and eye protection. <br /> o Rinse all instruments under running water to remove debris. <br /> o Scrub items using a soft brush and enzymatic cleaner or detergent. <br /> o Use an ultrasonic cleaner when applicable, following manufacturer instructions. <br /> Storage <br /> o Sterile instruments are stored in clean, dry, closed cabinets or drawers until use. <br /> o Any pack that is torn, wet, punctured, or otherwise compromised must be <br /> pertaining to single use disposable instruments. <br /> Portable Lights and Fixtures <br /> • Portable lighting that is touched during the procedure must be: <br /> o Covered with disposable barriers (e.g., plastic wrap or sleeves), or <br /> o Disinfected with an EPA-registered disinfectant after every client. <br /> • Switches, handles, cords, or any part handled with gloved hands are included. <br /> Glove Use <br /> • Gloves must be worn when cleaning, decontaminating, or handling contaminated <br /> instruments and surfaces (HSC §119309(d)). <br /> 10. Permanent Cosmetic Machine—Cleaning, Disinfection, and Sterilization Protocol <br /> Permanent cosmetic machines, including devices used for micropigmentation (e.g., eyebrow <br /> tattooing, lip coloring), must be maintained in a clean, sanitary condition to prevent infection <br /> transmission. All components contacting the client's skin or non-intact skin must be covered, <br /> cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized according to their use. <br /> Before the Procedure <br /> o Inspect the machine and all reusable parts for cleanliness and damage. <br /> o Apply single-use, disposable barriers (e.g., plastic sleeves, machine bags)to <br /> non-autoclavable parts such as the machine body, clip cords, power switches, and <br /> controls. <br /> o Assemble sterile needles, tips, and other disposable components as required. <br /> 8 <br />
