Set up and Tear Down of Workstation
Proper setup and teardown of the workstation before and after each client are critical to
maintaining a clean and safe environment, minimizing the risk of infection and cross-
contamination.
1. Set Up Before Procedure
o Perform hand hygiene thoroughly before beginning setup.
o Clean and disinfect the workstation surfaces (tables, chairs, armrests, headrests)
with an EPA-registered disinfectant effective against bloodborne pathogens.
o Cover surfaces that may be contaminated during the procedure (e.g., armrests,
headrests, clip cords) with single-use disposable barriers. Replace barriers after
each client.
o Arrange all instruments and supplies, using sterile or disinfected tools and single-
use disposable items as applicable.
o Prepare sterile trays with all necessary instruments, ensuring sterilized or
disposable status.
o Set up sharps disposal containers within easy reach but out of client access.
o Ensure gloves, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies are available.
During the Procedure
o Avoid cross-contamination by changing gloves when touching non-sterile
surfaces or supplies.
o Use barriers and maintain aseptic technique throughout.
Tear Down After Procedure
o Dispose of all single-use items (needles, gloves, barriers, ink caps) in appropriate
containers immediately.
o Carefully remove and discard disposable barriers without contaminating clean
surfaces.
o Clean and disinfect all workstation surfaces thoroughly with an EPA-registered
disinfectant.
o Clean and sterilize reusable instruments following established protocols before
storage.
. o Perform hand hygiene after teardown.
Inspection and Maintenance
o Inspect the workstation for damage or cleanliness issues.
o Report and address any problems promptly.
12
