Handwashing Sink
A properly equipped and maintained handwashing sink is essential to promote effective hand
hygiene and prevent the spread of infections in the facility,
1. Sink Location and Accessibility
o Handwashing sinks must be located within or immediately adjacent to the work
area for easy access by staff during procedures.
o The sink should be dedicated to handwashing only and not used for cleaning
instruments or disposing of waste.
2. Sink Design and Features
o The sink must have hot and cold running water or a mixing valve providing
warm water.
o Provide hands-free controls such as foot pedals, sensor faucets, or elbow handles
to reduce contamination risk.
o Supply liquid soap in a dispenser(not bar soap).
o Provide disposable paper towels or an air dryer for drying hands.
3. Handwashing Protocol
o Staff must wash hands thoroughly before and after client contact, after glove
removal, and after contact with potentially contaminated surfaces.
o Use the CDC-recommended handwashing technique: wet hands, apply soap,
scrub all surfaces for at least 20 seconds, rinse, and dry with disposable towels.
4. Maintenance and Cleaning
o Clean and disinfect the handwashing sink and surrounding area daily or as needed
to prevent contamination.
o Ensure soap dispensers and towel supplies are regularly replenished.
5. Signage and Training
o Post handwashing instructions near the sink.
o Train staff on proper hand hygiene procedures and sink use.
O.Aftercare Procedure
Providing proper aftercare instructions and guidance to clients is essential to promote healing,
prevent infection, and ensure the best outcomes following body art procedures.
1. Client Et ducation
o Provide clients with verbal and written aftercare instruuctions immediately
following the procedure.
o Instructions should be clear, concise, and easy to understand.
2.
