Foothill Sanitary Landfill Page 37 of 52 San Joaquin County DPW - Solid Waste
Joint Technical Document Revised 12/04/2025

6.4.2. Salvaging Activities
Most useful materials are removed at the transfer stations prior to delivery to the Landfill.
Inert materials, such as construction and demolition debris, are diverted to beneficial use. Other
materials salvaged include tires, display screens, appliances and white goods.

6.4.3. Volume Reduction
Volume reduction at the site is accomplished by compaction of the waste at the active
face. Most waste received is from the transfer stations, where significant volume reduction has
already occurred.

6.4.4. Dewatered Sludge
Dewatered sludge will be delivered to the site at designated times to avoid peak hours
and to facilitate staging operations. The sludge will be deposited at a designated area, within
the lined modules, near the active face, and outside and away from the public drop-off area.
Spotters will ensure that the public do not inadvertently approach the sludge stockpile area.

6.5. Equipment

The following equipment is present onsite at the current time (October 2025):
One Landfill Compactor
One Earth Scrapers
Two Ripper Dozers
One Backhoe Loader
One 2,000 Gallon Water Truck

The minimum equipment needed for operation of the facility consists of:
One Compactor
One Scraper
One Dozer
One Water Truck

In the event of equipment failure, equipment will be rented from a local heavy equipment
rental company as needed. Currently, heavy equipment is rented from Holt of California, United
Rentals, or Papè Machinery.
