Mr.Jeffrey Wong,SJCEHD May 23,2023
Well Abandonment Work Plan 2129-1140-01
Former Knowles Station,Stockton,California
Page 2
Pre-field Activities
The following activities will be implemented:
• Confirm well destruction schedule with a C-57 licensed drilling company,
• Update the site-specific Health and Safety Plan,
• Secure well destruction permits from SJCEHD,
• Mark the proposed work locations, and
• Notify Underground Service Alert, the property owner, and the SJCEHD of the
scheduled field activities.
Field Activities
A Stratus representative will be on-site to direct completion of the work. A licensed well driller
will destroy all of the Site's wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-4, MW-9, MW-IOD, MW-11, MW-12,
MW-13, IW-IA/B, IW-2A/B, IW-3A/B, and IW-4A/B) by filling the well casing with a neat
cement slurry to the top of the casing via tremie pipe, then down-hole blasting —perforating the
casing and screen with explosive charges placed from the bottom of each well to the depth of the
uppermost seal(see Appendix A). Following destruction of the well casing, additional neat cement
will be pumped into the borehole via tremie pipe until the grout level stabilizes within 5 feet of the
top of the casing. The upper 5 feet of the well casing will then be drilled out using a solid flight
auger, and the traffic-rated vault box covering the well will be removed. After drilling, additional
neat cement will be placed on top of the remaining casing to "top off' the grout seal to surface
grade.
Waste Management
Drill cuttings and wastewater generated during the well destruction activities will be contained in
DOT-approved 55-gallon steel drums. The drums will be appropriately labeled and stored at the
Site pending proper disposal. A licensed contractor will transport the soil and wastewater to an
appropriate facility for disposal.
Report Preparation
A report will be prepared to document the well destruction work. The report will discuss the work
activities completed, including Department of Water Resources well destruction notices for each
well destroyed and documentation of any deviations from the original scope of work, if necessary.
T:\Knowles Hammer\Well Destruction 2023\Pemrit Application\Well Abandonment Work Plan.docx STRATUS
