LLW, Aaiap,ax Tech chajassr-ou argil 're;';ele >w;,,a„
Laborumry Program. These otisite w analytical laboratories m a California
Department of Health Services EBBS)trEnvtimmnenml Iaborntary Accreditation Program
codification for analytical tests for which the DHS offers certification.
Upon reasipt, Be analytical data and associated QC data were managed by LLNL Dale
Management personnel and the results and QC were validated by the LLNL QC Chemist in
accordance with LLNL data management-relat 1 SOPs.
3.5. Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Quality ass anagement system for ensuring that all infm ratiun, data, and
decisions am technically sound and properly documented. "rhe Quality Assurance Fondest Plan
and Standard Operating Procedures (Goodrich and froxim 2012) were followed during the
characterization at the Eastern GSA Debris Burial Trenches including:
• Sampling and decontamination.
• Sample custody.
• Calibration procedures and frequency.
• Analytical procedures.
• Data reduction, validation, and reposing.
• Internal quality control chinks.
• Frequency, pertbmmnce, and system audits.
• Specific routine procedures used to assess data precision, awu sey, and completeness.
Quality control (QC) samples were collected and identified fa accordance with SOP 4.9
'Collection of Field QC Samples." Field samples used to assess QC far this work included:
• CNkcated (Bnplleme) gxlggbs. One duplicate sample was mlloved per each to normal
.samples. Three QC duplicate son samples were analyzed for SVOCa/PAHs utilizing
EPA Method 8270: semivolatile organic compounds by GC — MS. Three QC duplicate
samples were analyzed for PCBs utilizing EPA Method 8082C: PCBs by G(:. Soil
sample analyses for SVOCa/PAH.% and PCBs were performed by Curtis and Tompkins
Laboratories. er-labunmry QC soil samples come submitted to BC Laboratories t
analyse. The locations (borehole and sampling depth) whore file duplicate soil samples
wers callech i are provided in Table I . The analytical results for the duplicate samples
fr SVOCs/PAHx and PCBs in subsurface soil are provided in Tables 3 and 4,
respectively.
• Although the work plan specified [hat four duplicate samples would he collected, the
ampler inadvertently mended down (10% of 35 samples — 35QC samples) to collect
three QA/QC samples rather than mending up to four QC samples. However, an
additional three soil sample extracts were split by the labomtmy and analyzed far QC
purposes. There are no implications to the data given that: (1) no SVOCs or PAIN were
declared in any of the coil samples above the analytical methal reporting limits, and (2)
while PCBs were delivered at concentrations above analytical RLs in four tumble soil
samples and two QC duplicate samples ranging boom 0.01 to B037 mgskg, the PCB
concentrations re below EPA industrial and residential and RSLs and We MCI based
Protection of(.round Water SSL in all soil samples in all borcholes.
14
