INNOVATIONSAeA Ammonia Emergency Preparedness Toolbox g Y p Signs of an Ammonia Leak • Anhydrous Ammonia smells like household ammonia or rotten eggs. • A large leak will look like a white cloud or white mist. ■ If you see a white cloud or mist...move away immediately! Warn others around you to do the same. • Never try to walk into a white cloud or white mist.This is a deadly situation. In the event of a possible ammonia leak, who do I contact? • Fresh Innovations uses Anhydrous Ammonia for Refrigeration. • To ensure the safety of yourself and everyone around you, immediately let a Manager/Supervisor know of any possible ammonia leaks, smells, or alarms that are sounding. ' ■ Your Manager/Supervisor will investigate further and inform you what to do via a megaphone, phone or radio. y • Your Manager/Supervisor will contact other management to get everyone to a IL safe place.They will also ensure that the necessary calls are made to emergency personnel. • If the smell is strong and you have not been given directions by a � j!# Manager/Supervisor,tell others to move in the opposite direction of the ammonia smell and quickly notify your supervisor. AMMONIA Evacuation Procedure • Always stay calm! ■ If instructed to evacuate the building, follow instructions and carefully walk to the nearest exit. • Once you are outside of the building, reference the windsock and walk in the opposite direction of where the wind is blowing. o Ex: If the wind is blowing TO the North, walk to the South. ■ Please reference the maps posted throughout the facility for all exit and gathering locations. ■ Once at the designated gathering location, an associate count will take place and more instructions will be provided. • Your Manager/Supervisor will inform you when it's safe and authorized to return inside. AMMONIA Shelter-in-place Procedure • Management will establish the designated shelter-in-place location. ■ The assembly point will depend on the wind direction.This will be based on the leak location and direction of wind (windsock). ■ If instructed to shelter-in-place,walk carefully to the designated shelter location.This will be a safe area inside the building (room). ■ All personnel will be accounted. ■ The Building Manager and all other personnel will remain at the shelter-in-place location. ■ Your Manager/Supervisor will inform you when it's safe and authorized to return to normal operation.
