generators). This is to better estimate the percent solids of the entire load being
hauled off for disposal.
b. Methodologies
Samples will be collected by Treatment Plant Operators or by City sub-contractors
using a clean hand auger directly from the disposal bin. Core depths should be
approximately6-12",with precaution beingtaken to avoid tearing of the liner. Multiple
core extractions should be taken at different locations within the disposal bin, placed
into a clean steel bucket, and mixed with a steel sampling trowel to ensure a
representative sample. Mixed cores shall then be placed into clean wide-mouth 8-
ounce glass jars using the sampling trowel. Per analytical laboratory — no sample
preservation is needed. No eating, smoking, or drinking should be performed around
sample collection equipment or open sample containers. Two (2)jars are needed for
one sample. All treatment equipment (Filter Press) and vehicles in the immediate
vicinity should be turned off when performing sample collection. Any left-over filter
cake in the steel bucket shall be returned to the disposal bin.
The following PPEshould be worn when collecting samples:
■ Clean Rubber Gloves
■ Protective clothing(overalls,work boots)
■ N95 dust mask
■ Safety Glasses
The following sampling equipment should be used, or an equivalent:
■ Hand Auger
■ Steel bucket, with lid
■ Steel trowel, or hand shovel
■ Glass Sample Jars(provided by analytical laboratory)
c. Frequency
As of the writing of this plan, the LAWTF has been offline for an extended period of
time due to maintenance. An "initial" sample will be collected after the treatment
plant is brought back online and sludge processing resumes normal operation. This
is anticipated to occur sometime in 2026. Samples will then be taken once every five
(5)years to keep information up-to-date and confirm the accuracy of the filter cake
profile. Additional samples will be collected if significant process changes occur.
