3.2 Remedial Action Objectives
RAOs describe what the remedial alternatives need to achieve to protect human health and the
environment. RAOs specify the contaminants and media of interest, exposure pathways, and
receptors of concern and are based on the remediation goals. Remediation goals are developed
based on chemical-specific applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARARs), when
available, and site-specific risk-related factors.
The following RAOs have been developed for soil and sediment at Site 47:
• Minimize exposure of future industrial/commercial occupants to arsenic and PAHs in
shallow soil (0 to 2 feet bgs) at concentrations exceeding the remediation goals (Table
5);
• Minimize exposure of ecological receptors to arsenic in shallow soil (0 to 2 feet bgs)
at concentrations exceeding the remediation goal (Table 5); and
• Minimize exposure of ecological receptors to total DDT in surface sediment(top 1.5 feet
bgs)within and soil (top 3 feet bgs) adjacent to the southern drainage channel at
concentrations exceeding the remediation goal (Table 5).
The remediation goals for this Site 47 RAP are presented in Table 5. The remediation goals are
consistent with the risk-based SLs described in Section 3.1; however, the remediation goal for
arsenic in soil is the BTV because the BTV exceeds the human health risk-based SL.
Site 47 RAP for Soil 10 October 2023
